10:00 - 11:50: Monks Bar opens, Mark Jenkins performs live!return to itinerary times (top of page)

The Monks Bar will be opened at 10am to allow everyone who arrive early to sit down and enjoy some refreshments. There is also a licensed bar which will be open throughout the day from 12 - 6:00.

Live music will be performed by Mark Jenkins, electronic synth artist, who will play for approximately one hour to keep fans entertained before JarreCon opens at 12:00. Mark will be playing his own compositions, which are great synthesizer melodies, and we are sure everyone will enjoy this concert!

You will have the chance to purchase his CDs and chat to Mark on the AMP Records stall in the main hall after 12:00. Click here to view the AMP Records web site.

Latest news is that Mark Jenkins will be releasing an limited-edition numbered CD which will *only* be available at JarreCon '98, SynProvisation.

"I'll be playing very long, slowly developing improvisations, with Jarre-type fast sequences but a much more abstract feel - sort of 'Jarre goes rhythmic ambient'".

A sleeve for the CD and more details will be available soon.

12:00: JarreCon '98 - doors open!return to itinerary times (top of page)

After a short introduction from compere Ed Bradley, the doors to the Guild Hall will be unlocked, and JarreCon '98 will be officially open!

12:15: Theremin Tripreturn to itinerary times (top of page)

The Theremin is a joy both to play and to watch! We have a replica of the Russian instrument to play, so you can perform Oxygene 10 just like Jean Michel Jarre has done on the recent Oxygene Tour. For £1.00, which will be donated to UNESCO, you will be given five minutes to play to the backing track and have some great fun too!

Demonstrations begin at 12:15 and you will have the chance to play on the Theremin the majority of the day - check with any of the JarreCon crew (all have distinctive T-shirts and passes) and they will help you with any questions on this event or anything else about the day!

12:30 - 13:15: 'Jarre fan of '98' quizreturn to itinerary times (top of page)

This was a very popular event at Rendez-vous 96 and we expect it to be even more so this time! A series of questions will be asked to select a number of fans from the audience so you must answer quickly if you want to participate!

After an elimination round we will then select three people for the final, and the winner will walk away with a great prize, and the title "Jarre Fan of 1998". Two runner-up prizes will also be awarded to the fans in second and third place. Video and audio questions have been included with traditional questions to add variety - good luck !

13:20 - 13:50: Mercurey workshop (updated 23/7/98) return to itinerary times (top of page)

Mercurey are a Dutch band who perform spectacular Jarre concerts, to a backdrop of lights and specially-designed graphics. The talented musicians play live and as near as possible to the original, using many instruments the same as on the original albums. This fascinating workshop is to demonstrate how Jarre sequences and arranges his music.

The band are our guests for the day, and will also have their own stand so will be available to talk all day about your musical questions. This event will run only once, and promises to be a popular event! Click above logo for more details on Mercurey.
