By Car - parking at the
Student's Guild:
Aston University is easiest to
reach from the M6. See map A to see which motorways link to the
M6. The route described below is also detailed on map C - follow
the arrows from the roundabout shown at the top-right of the map.
- At M6, Junction 6 take the
A38(M), signposted as 'Birmingham City Centre'. Ignore
the first exit, signposted for 'Aston / Waterlinks'.
- Leave the A38(M) at the
second exit, signposted 'Wholesale Markets'. You will
arrive at a roundabout (island) and some traffic lights.
- Take the second exit,
signposted for 'City Centre' and 'A38'.
- Almost straight away you
should take the second left into Aston Road, with a sign
reading 'Institute of Art and Design - UCE'.
- If all spaces on this road
are taken, carry on driving down this road for a short
while, and you will come to a crossroads, with the
'Faculty and Firkin' pub in front of you and to the
right.
- Turn right into Lister
Street. You will pass the 'Sack of Potatoes' pub on your
right, and the Student's Guild - the venue for JarreCon
'98, behind this.
- As the road winds round to
the left, and into Woodcock Street, there are spaces for
parking on both sides of the road. If you can see that
all spaces are taken, take the first right into Aston
Street. However, if you have not located a parking space
and drive to the end of Woodcock Street, you will see a
dual-carriageway in front of you (Jennens Rd), and the
'Black Horse' pub on your left. Do not join
Jennens Rd, instead turn around (there is space to do
this opposite the pub), and drive back up Woodcock Street
on the other side of the road. Then take the second left
up Aston Street.
- As you drive up Aston Street,
you will pass Aston University's Main Building on your
right. At the mini-island, carry straight on. You will
pass some shops on your right and some 'Pay and Display'
parking on the left.
- At the end of Aston Street
you will meet a dual-carriage way. Turn left, and keep to
the left side of the road.
- Take the first left into
Stafford Street, where 'Pay and Display' parking is
located on both sides of the road.
- Alternatively, take the first
left into the 'Aston University Visitors Car Park'. At
the barrier, talk into the speaker to let security know
that you are going to the Student's Guild for JarreCon
'98. They will then let you through the gate.
Please note: Park anywhere
around the university campus where there are not double-yellow
lines. Please check any 'Pay and Display' areas, as it should be
free on Sunday. You can verify this by reading the notice on the
ticket machines. Please give the JarreCon representative who
checks your ticket your registration number, so we can easily
identify your car if necessary. Use Map C to locate the Student's
Guild in relation to where you parked.

in the same direction as before, passing the 'Sony
Centre' on your right, and across the pedestrian crossing
by 'The Crown' pub.
- Carry straight on, and you
should then pass the 'Plastic Factory' on your left. The
road will wind round to the left, but instead go down the
steps which should be directly in front of you on the
pavement.

under the 'James Watt Queensway'. When you reach the
other side, turn left, walk up the ramp, and then follow
the pavement round to the right.
